When we plan to visit any country, for tourism purpose, then we first want to cover most of the must visit tourist attractions to make our trip more meaningful. Similarly, when first time Foreigner visitors, plans to visit India, they prepare a list of their must visit destinations in which Taj Mahal was mostly included. It is indeed counted among wonders of the world. It is located in Agra city of Uttar Pradesh state. Majority of inter-national arrivals are done at IGI Airport of Delhi. After reaching Delhi, tourists, begins their India trip. Agra is well connected by road, from Delhi. Due to poor flight connectivity of Agra, tourists have to reach Agra, from different cities of India, either by road or by train. In today’s time, when everyone is in short of time, we feel the need to some fast mode of transportation and to fulfill this requirement, flight is considered as the best option. So here in Agra, it is a long pending demanding of local citizens and tourism fraternity but unfortunately, till now, it is not fulfilled.
At present, tourists have to use train and road options only to reach Agra. Even after completing the Agra city tour, if they have planned to other surrounding tourist destinations like Gwalior, Jaipur, Lucknow etc. they have to rely on train and tourist cabs only. During winters, due to fog conditions, trains often gets delayed by 5-10 hrs which is unbearable for those tourists who comes to India with limited time with proper scheduled tour plan. Sudden delays in train, disturbs whole tour plan. Due to long distance, sometime taxi traveling is very inconvenient, especially for old-age visitors. Considering such problems, many tourists change their tour plans which means loss of possible tourism. It can be seen as a major hurdle in tourism and other industrial development of this whole region. In such conditions, Flight is best solution for those who have paying capacity and have tight schedule.
As per news agencies, some kind of developments are going on to give the good flight connectivity gift to Agra city, which he deserves the most. Replying to a question, raised by Agra city M P Mr. S. P. Singh Baghel, in the Lok Sabha, Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri gave assurance that Government is aware of this long pending demand for good air-connectivity of Agra city, from rest of the India and this demand will be addressed, very soon. He said that airline companies were ready with plans to begin flights operation on some most feasible routes like Varanasi, -Bengaluru, Bhopal, Mumbai, Lucknow, Jaipur etc. Major announcements will come in month of December 2019. Still till Aug 15, we can expect flight connectivity from Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and Jaisalmer. Tourism sector of Agra has welcomed this great news and expressed hope that this will be game changer for current tourism status.
During his speech in Lok Sabha, Mr. S P Singh Baghel, expressed the need to complete the development of new Agra Airport terminal, keeping it separate from Air Force Station. At present, people have to go through Air Force station which is not convenient for them. At present, development of new terminal is held due to restrictions imposed on construction, by National Green Tribunal (NGT). Here Central Government is required to intervene and take necessary steps to get clearance from NGT and work will resume so that people will be able to use new Agra Airport Terminal, very soon.
